Our Mission
The Parksville-Qualicum Community Foundation works to improve the quality of life in our communities through grants for charitable activities from earnings of funds invested in perpetuity.

Our History

WE ARE TEN YEARS OLD!

What an amazing first decade! We started small, sparked by the vision of long time citizens who care, who were inspired by a presentation from the Vancouver Foundation.  In due course, Art Skipsey brought together an interested group of residents from the District 69 area to discuss the possibility of setting up a Community Foundation.  These pioneers formed a  small group to look into how to put this dream into action.  Three people started the ball rolling:  Rick Foster, David Freeman and Karen (Walker) Flannery, and they were soon joined by Jim Storey and Brad Wylie who in turn recruited Brent Johnson, CGA to round out this first group.

At the founding meeting on February 24, 1999 at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre, memberships were sold and the first Board of Directors and officers were elected at this meeting. The first board members were: Daryl Epp, George Holme, Julia MacDonald, Art Skipsey, David Freeman, Yvonne Hooper, Cam MacLean, Shawn Tetlock, Elizabeth Hyeronymi, Brent Johnson, Rita Shotte, and Barbara Terry.

The new Foundation has always been helped by Vancouver Foundation. It provided two $25,000.00 matching grants to get the ball rolling. In addition a hundred founding donors pitched in with $1000 each. At the end of the first year, the Foundation had  $116,000.00 in the Endowment Fund. Over the next ten years, there was no looking back. Coming into our second decade, we have major community alliances and assets exceeding $1.4 million!

We are not a membership organisation. Instead we invite anyone who loves the communities that make up District 69 to join our adventure in community building. Be a Friend of the Foundation.  Volunteer your time on a committee. Join us on the Board. Donate some of your family treasure.  However you participate, you will be leaving a legacy.
