YOUTH IN PHILANTHROPY

Young people care about their communities but many youth aren't sure how to become engaged.

In the Parksville Qualicum Community Foundation, the Youth Action Committee provides one way for youth to get active in being the change they want to see. 

This committee, which has called itself The Hand, became an integral part of Foundation in 2009, as one of the forward looking strategies of the second decade.

There are between 15 to 20 active Hand members. Several "adult allies" help when they are asked, and often help a lot!  One ally, Janet Dunnett,  is also a Board Member.  In addition, Lars Bakstad is the Youth Director, on the board. He joined the Board in 2008 and is also an active youth leader of The Hand.
