At the Parksville-Qualicum Community Foundation, we are proud to administer the Oceanside Community Prosperity Fund, which provides local charities with the resources they need to grow and thrive. One of the 2025 recipients was the Oceanside Integrated Fitness Society (OIFS), a community gym dedicated to helping people with mobility challenges build strength, confidence, and connection.
Keeping the Doors Open
The Prosperity Fund grant provided OIFS with critical operational support during a pivotal time. Funds were used to help cover salaries and keep the gym running until OIFS achieved charitable status in March 2025. With charitable status in place, OIFS is now able to apply for long-term funding, including provincial gaming grants.
Supporting People with Mobility Challenges
The grant directly supported the salary of OIFS’s personal trainer, who works one-on-one with every client to build strength and capacity. To date, more than 40 people have been served, each with unique challenges including Parkinson’s disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, age-related frailty, and early stages of dementia.
For many, the adapted equipment and personalized support have been life-changing. One client shared that their trainer is attentive, reliable, and always encouraging. Another described how consistent training is improving their strength and giving them confidence in daily life.
A Growing Community Resource
From its start, OIFS has been a welcoming space where people can build fitness in ways that are accessible, supportive, and adapted to their needs. Thanks to the Oceanside Prosperity Fund, OIFS was able to stay open, expand its reach, and continue building a future where everyone has the chance to improve their health and independence.
At PQCF, we are proud to support this growing organization and the people it serves. Together, we are helping community members overcome barriers and thrive.
