The Small Neighbourhood Grants funding was used to purchase quilting supplies, specifically batting and flannel fabric for the backing of our quilts. These materials are our primary ongoing expense, as we are fortunate to receive fabric donations from the community but mainly rely on grant funding to cover these essentials.
With these supplies, our group of seven volunteers created handmade quilts that were donated to children in need.
This grant directly supported our ability to ensure that more children in our community received a handmade quilt.
Our quilts provided comfort and warmth to vulnerable children in our community through SOS Child, Youth and Family Services, as well as to newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Nanaimo General Hospital where our incubator quilts provide warmth and comfort to newborns. The feedback from social workers and children has been heart-warming, confirming that each quilt delivers not just physical warmth but a meaningful reminder to a child in need that someone cares about them.
